A Brief Introduction to Dongqi Secondary School Located in Hanwang Town in Mianzhu City, Dongqi Secondary School of Deyang City, Sichuan Province covers an area of more than 30 mu. The school was established with the fund offered by Dongfang SteamTurbine Works on October 12, 1968.The teaching quality has been improving constantly due to the professional ethics of the faculty and staff and diligence of the students. As a result Dongqi Secondary School developed to a key middle school of Deyang in 1986 and key middle school of Sichuan Province in1996. Also it was honoured as a Model School in the School Spirit at provincial level and ranked among one of the first Exemplary Secondary Schools at provincial level.
Dongqi Secondary School is blessed with perfect teaching facilities; there are four standard basket and volleyball courts. The experimental building, the classroom building, the dormitory, the library, the athletic field are lined in an array, standing erect on the campus. In the experimental building are the standard physics, chemistry, the biological laboratory and the microcomputer room, the multimedia classrooms. The school library has a total collection of 50,000 volumes, with hundred kinds of the domestic and foreign publications. The library is completely open to the student, who may appreciate the pleasure of reading in the vast range of knowledge.
Dongqi Secondary School has an excellent faculty and outstanding achievements in operation. Of the entire school 100 teaching anadministrative staff, has 80 professional teachers whose educational levels are inconformity with the requirements of the state for qualification. Among whom, there is a teacher with special grade at provincial level,25 Secondary School Senior teachers, 2 outstanding teachers of city level and 5 discipline leaders of provincial or municipal level ,4 the backbone teachers. Many of the excellent teachers have the won the first awards in various competitions for the best class instruction at provincial 0r city levels. Furthermore, the School has successively appraised as excellent school of teaching quality by Deyang Municipal Education Commission for years. The College entrance examination rate and the rate of pass of the graduates from Dongqi Secondary School rank among top and the proportion the graduates from junior middle school entering the senior middle school is more than 90%.The School has taken the lead in implementing the education of high school of popularizing in the whole province.
In 2005 the school was the school is transferred in the local government of Mianzhu with National policy separating the ownership of school from the enterprises to hand over to the administration of local government. Hence, Dongqi Secondary School changed to a school of Mianzhu City from self-established school of Dongfang Steam Turbine Works. Although the school is no longer under the administration of Dongfang Steam Turbine Works, the school insists on the policy of giving priority to serving the students from the enterprise, on the other hand it is expanding the enrollment locally constantly. There are 14 teaching classes of junior high school and 9 classes for senior students and the total number of the students is 891 before the earthquake.
The provincial key school went through fatal hits because of May 12. heavy earthquakes!! All building collapsed and the teaching body suffers heavy losses, 14teachers died in an accident including 1 teacher of a special classification, 4 teachers with senior titles 6 teachers with intermediate titles and 3 teachers with elementary titles. In addition, 6 teachers are injured. By June 6, the number of deaths is 210,with 24 persons missing and 58 injured.
After the earthquake occurred, the school did its very best to evacuates surviving teachers and students actively, on the other hand, the whole staff rescues the buried teachers and students actively. With the aid of the factory, the students have been transferred to Deyang Gymnasium and Dongqi Resin Subsidiary Factory in batches at first. Then the work of the school is divided into three parts. First, rescue the buried teachers and students. Second, manage and evacuate surviving students, assign safely them to their parents or relatives Third, figure out the number of casualties and console the relatives of the victims.
Though we have encountered so serious a loss, the strong-minded of teachers and students of Dongqi Secondary School will not fall down. Thanks to the support from Deyang Municipal Bureau of Education and Deyang No. Three Middle School, We have established the Deyang- Dongqil Tent Secondary School on the campus of Deyang No. Three Middle School. On May 21, the surviving students of Senior Three were encouraged to be the first ones to resume classes.
At present, with the aid and support of the various circles of society, and supported by municipal bureau of education of Deyang, a new movable school with materials made of board are under construction; the work of resuming classes of other grades is in tense preparing.
In future, we hope to follow Dongfang SteamTurbine Works closely in an attempt to rebuild a new Dongqi Secondary School in Deyang. The new school will carry on planning and design with the scale of 48 teaching classes according to the standard of high school of national-level for a model school!

东汽中学简况 四川省德阳市东汽中学占地30余亩。原是由东方汽轮机厂于1968年10月12日出资创办的厂矿子弟学校。校址在德阳市绵竹汉旺镇。由于广大教师的敬业和东汽子弟们的勤奋努力，学校教学质量不断提高，1986年建设成为德阳市重点中学，1996年建设成为四川省重点中学，1997年建设成为四川省校风示范学校，2002年建设成为四川省首批示范性普通高完中学。
学校办学条件完善，校内分别建有四个标准的篮球场和排球场，实验楼、教学楼、宿舍楼、图书馆、运动场一字排开，矗立在校园之中。实验楼内有标准的物理、化学、生物实验室和微机室、电教室、语音室、多媒体教室。学校藏书5万余册，订阅国内外报刊上百种，课余时间完全对学生开放，学生可以自由地在知识的海洋中畅游。
东汽中学具有雄厚的师资力量和出色的办学成绩。在全校100名教职工中，就有专职教师80人，学历全部达标。其中，四川省特级教师1人，中学高级教师25人，德阳市优秀教师 2人，省市学科带头人５人，骨干教师４人，有多名教师在省、市优质课比赛中获一等奖。自1991年以来，学校连续多年被德阳市教委评为教学质量优胜单位。其中高考上线率、达标率多次居德阳市前列；初中毕业会考一次性合格率均在90%以上，初中毕业升高中的比例也达到90%以上，在全省率先实施了普及高中教育。２002年学校与四川师范大学联合创办了“四川师大外国语学院东汽外语实验学校”和“四川师大数学与软件科学学院东汽数学实验基地”，更使学校的发展如虎添翼 。
2005年随着国家企业社会职能剥离政策，学校移交绵竹地方政府。使学校从厂矿子弟学校向地方学校转变，学校生源结构发生变化。学校坚持以服务于东汽为主的方针，在地方不断扩大招生。地震前有高中教学班级14个，初中教学班9个，学生共891名。
5．12大地震给这所经历移交痛苦的省重点学校致命一击。所有建筑倒塌损毁无一完整。教师队伍损失惨重，遇难教师达14名，其中包括特级教师1名，高级教师4名，中级教师6名，初级教师3名。另有6名教师受伤。至6月6日，学生遇难达210人，失踪24人，受伤58人。
地震发生后，学校一方面积极疏散幸存师生，另一方面，积极救援被埋师生。在工厂的援助下，首先是分批将学生转移到了德阳市体育馆和东汽树脂分厂。然后学校工作分为三个部分开展。一是救援被埋师生；二是管理和疏散幸存学生，将他们安全交给他们的父母或亲戚；三是统计落实伤亡人员和慰问他们的家属。
虽然我们遭遇了如此严重的损失，但坚强的东汽中学师生不会倒下。在德阳市教育局和德阳市三中的支持下，我们建立了德阳市东汽中学帐篷学校三中教学点，并于5月21日，让幸存的高三学生率先复课。
现在，在社会各界的援助和支持下，在德阳市教育局的支持下，新的活动板房学校正在建设之中，其它年级的复课工作正在紧张的筹划中。
将来，我们希望将跟随东汽厂，在德阳修建新东汽中学。新学校将按国家级示范高中标准，以48个教学班的规模进行规划设计。
