Summary of the Tenure 2002
Finally, it reaches the point where we need to summarize our activities for the past tenure. So many things have happened, and it seemed to be just yesterday…
The following are list of activities ACSSY coordinated during our term.
A. Reception Program for New Students
Our reception program for new students consisted of five parts:

a. Mentor Program. Following from last term’s tradition, ACSSY organized a mentor program. We matched each new student with a senior student (mentor) before they came to Yale. The mentor was asked to answer questions, help the new student find housing or, if needed, provide him or her with temporary housing. Last year, over 40 mentors volunteered to help 45 new students.

c. Airport Pickup. ACSSY organized several pick-ups at JFK airport in New York on August 16, 24, 28, 2000 and several trips to the local train and bus station. We picked up over 40 people, about half of the total incoming students and scholars from China.

d. Welcome Party and BBQ. A free welcome BBQ was held at the Lighthouse Beach to introduce the new people to the community and to thank people who helped at with their reception. Over 200 participants

e. Welcome lunch at Eastrock park partnered with OISS. Over 50 participants.

B. Chinese Festival Celebrations

a. National Day and Moon Festival. We organized a dance and karaoke party at the GPSCY. Over 200 participants.

b. Chinese New Year. The celebration consisted of two parts: a free Chinese New Year Show with entertainment by both local and professional performers and a dance/karaoke party at the GPSCY. Over 300 participants.
C. Community Aid

D. Lectures

a. Immigration Law Seminar, by Zhang, Bush, Gao & Associates, P.C.

b. "Sino-American Relations After September 11th: Is it Time for Change?"by Professor Jia QingGuo, co-sponsored by The Council on East Asian Studies.

c. “Return to China” by Yu MingHong, President of New Oriental School, China.

d. “Start entrepreneur in China” by Qian YongQiang, CEO of TOL24.com, Vice President of New Oriental School, China.
E. ACSSY Alumni Club
-
a. Organized a Graduation Party: ACSSY organized a graduation reception on May 24, 2000 at the Yale-China Association for last year’s Chinese graduates.

F. Miscellaneous

a. Start to work with Chinese School to provide education in Chinese to local community.

b. Denote Chinese Magazines to New Haven Free Library.

c. Showing Chinese Movies weekly from February to May.

e. Made an ACSSY Flag with two banners, sponsored by Bei Jing New Oriental School.

f. Obtained an ACSSY Office, provided by GPSS on 204 York Street. Furnished the office and equipped it with fax machine.
